A Brief Introduction of CABC

      China –ASEAN Business Council - CABC is one of the five main cooperation and dialogue organizations between China and ASEAN. CABC consists of China Council for the promotion of International Trade (CCPIT), ASEAN Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ASEAN-CCI), the national business leaders, well-known enterprisers and experts of members of ASEAN.

      The coordinator of CABC in ASEAN is ASEAN-CCI. ASEAN-CCI consists of ten representative business chambers in ASEAN namely;

1) Brunei National Chamber of Commerce and Industry

2) Cambodia Phnon Penh Chamber of Commerce and Industry

3) Indonesia Chamber of Commerce and Industry

4) Laos National Chamber of Commerce and Industry

5) The National Chamber of Commerce & Industry of Malaysia

6) Union of Myanmar Chamber of Commerce and Industry

7) The Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry

8) Singapore Business Federation

9) The Federation of Thai Industries

10) Vietnam of Commerce and Industry.

      On November 6, 2001 in the 5 th China-ASEAN Leader Meeting, China and ASEAN reached common ground on setting up China-ASEAN Free Trade Area. November 8 ,the establishment ceremony and the 1 st meeting of CABC were both held in Jakata, Indonesia. The then Premier of China Zhu Rongji attended the ceremony and declared that CABC was officially established. The meeting ended successfully. December 2003 the 2 nd meeting of CABC was held in Kunming, Yunnan province. The then Premier of China Zhu sent congratulatory letter specially. June, 2004 the 3 rd meeting was held in Yangon , the capital city of Myanmar. The then Premier of Myanmar attended the opening ceremony and made a speech. October 2005, the 4 th meeting was held in Nanning, Guangxi province . China and ASEAN Industrial and Commercial Circles signed Nananing Declaration of CABC. CABC plays an important role in broadening the development and strengthening the cooperation of enterprises both in China and ASEAN. The 5 th China-ASEAN Business Council Meeting is held on November 7 this year in Bangkok, Thailand. As the aspect of promoting the economic and trade cooperation, the 5 th meeting is characterized as practicality, pertinence and instruction.

       China's president in CABC is Mr. Wan Jifei who is also the president of CCPIT. The executive general secretary of CABC Chinese Secretariat is Mr. Xu Ningning, a famous ASEAN business expert of China.

2. China-ASEAN Investment plan (5 yrs plan) which includes activities that support ACBC’s work program

The meeting agreed to endorse “Nanning Joint Declaration of China and ASEAN Countries” (Mr.Lam will be the representative on behalf of ASEAN-CCI)

Details:
1. to enhance/develop cooperation between China and ASEAN
2. to promote trade under China-ASEAN FTA
3. set up website including all trade database of China-ASEAN
4. to promote tourism between China and ASEAN

Action plan:
1. set up China-ASEAN website that cover information of 16 members (ASEAN+6 Chi, Kor, Jap ,India, Aus, NZ). This website will be linked to ASEAN-CCI website, E-Government, Logistics in ASEAN and China
2. activities which promote business people and entrepreneur relations between ASEAN-CHINA and external partner
3. The 5th ASEAN-China Business Council will be hold in Oct/Nov at Bangkok (TBC)
